Why Purchase Green Backings Are Strong

There are many things that set Purchase Green apart from other artificial grass companies. Our exceptional products and prices, as well as top-notch customer service, are readily apparent when you visit our stores. Another thing we’re really proud of is that we’re able to offer our customers a lifetime warranty

Why are we able to do that? Well, a big reason is our backing systems. The backing system is what gives our grasses their amazing strength. The durability, performance and even the lifespan of our grass begins with the backing system.

The Power of Three

If you’ve shopped for artificial grass before you may have seen products that use a single sheet of fabric or two pressed sheets of fabric. At Purchase Green you will find our products use our unique process incorporating a triple-layer, woven mesh of fabric. It’s awesome and it means that our primary fabric is thicker, more stable, and lasts longer. That’s a big reason why our warranty is 25 percent longer than most alternatives.

If you look closely you can see the the woven backing system that makes our grasses so strong!

Artificial grass backing systems have two components – a primary backing and a secondary backing. But wait, you might be thinking, you just said you have a triple-layer system! That is true, we use a triple-layer primary backing – the woven mesh system.

Behind that triple-layer primary backing is the secondary backing. The secondary backing is made from either 32 ounces of latex, 26 ounces of polyurethane or 20 ounces of a soy-based extract found in our Eco Line.

Strength in Numbers

Why do we offer different backings? Like most things at Purchase Green, we do so in order to create products that best meet customers’ needs. Latex produces a more dimensionally stable system. Dimensionally stable is just a fancy way of describing a grass’s ability to retain its shape and (you guessed it) dimension. Polyurethane, meanwhile, is easier to work with because the products are generally not as stiff, making it easier to install and perhaps a better choice in colder climates. And the soy-based backing is a more environmentally-friendly backing that comes from a renewable source.

Most of our grasses features a 32 ounces latex secondary backing.

All Purchase Green backings are equivalent in durability and expected life (in terms of how Purchase Green constructs the backings) and all come with our lifetime product warranty. We wanted our grasses to be better than what is generally offered in the market, so we started by creating better backing systems.

If you shop around, you’ll find virtually every other manufacturer and distributor offer a double-layer primary backing. Our triple-layer primary backing is better.

Our 32 oz. latex secondary backing is 50 percent thicker than you’ll find elsewhere. It also offers more tuft bind than virtually every other manufacturer or distributor’s 20 oz. polyurethane secondary backing. Tuft bind, FYI, is a measure of the force required to pull a stitch of blades through the backing system. Our latex and polyurethane backings both produce a tuft bind that requires a force of between 13 pounds and 14 pounds per square-inch. That’s a lot compared to competitors’ standard of 8 pounds per square-inch.

Our 26 oz. polyurethane secondary backing is also 30 percent thicker, offering more tuft bind and dimensional stability than virtually everyone else’s standard 20 oz. polyurethane secondary backing.

Lastly, our 20 oz. Eco Cell secondary backing is a soy-based product, making it an exceptional, environmentally-friendly option derived from a renewable source.

Our Eco Line features a top-of-the-line, soy-based secondary backing.

Test Our Strength

We could go on and on about backing systems. But really the best way to experience the difference is to see our grasses for yourself. Visit your local Purchase Green store and take the touch test. Compare Purchase Green samples with a competitor’s grass. Set the samples out in the sun for a day then pick up both and evaluate the apparent durability of the backing. We know ours will pass the touch/feel test. It will feel more durable because it is more durable.

Our backing systems are just one of the many reasons Purchase Green artificial grass stands out from the competition. If you’d like to learn more about our company and our products please head over to our Knowledge Base, check out some videos or download an eBook.

At Purchase Green we’re always happy, helpful and happy to help!
