The story of artificial grass goes back more than 50 years. Since the first attempt at creating a synthetic turf surface, artificial grass technology has changed dramatically. Perhaps the most significant advancements have been in the techniques for creating radical new varieties of synthetic grass yarn.
Like modern carpet fibers that have incredible texture, durability and resistance to stains, textile technology has helped Purchase Green create some amazing yarns for artificial grass. Here at Purchase Green, our favorite thing to do is help educate our customers so they get the right grass to suit their specific needs. As such, we decided to post a blog series covering the various yarn types used in Purchase Green products.
Earlier in this series we introduced you to the Flat, Stem, V-shape and C-shape yarn. This time we take a look at the W-shape. The W-shape is our newest yarn and it results in an exceptional grass that boasts a combination of some of the most desirable features available.
Wowza! Wonderful! What the what!? These are just a few of the usual exclamations uttered by customers when they’re introduced to our W-shaped yarn. Introduced in 2016, the W-Shape achieves something extraordinary. It blends a number of popular features found in our other product lines into a commercial-grade, highly-durable, no-shine product. The W-shape offers the performance of the Vista (super tough) with significant texture improvements (softer).
This fiber, made by Mattex/Green Vision, is one of the best in the industry. It has outstanding memory and, with the proper amount of infill to suit your expected foot traffic, is a highly durable grass. The W-shape yields an excellent, high-quality and very natural looking product that is exceptionally hearty. We are tremendously excited about the W-shape and love showing it off for customers visiting our showrooms.
The W-shape yarn is made with a de-lustered, monofilament tall fiber with a cheery field green and apple green color blend. We created our W-shaped yarn for the customer that wants an exceptionally natural look and prefers durability. As far as texture, it really is a happy medium between a performance grass like a Vista and the luxuriously soft feel of, say, Nature’s Sod Premier.
Ultimately, the W-shape was engineered to blend together the most desirable attributes of other yarns. It may not be the best yarn in any one particular category, but in all categories it is very, very good. In every respect, the W-shape is all-around excellent.
Grasses featuring the W-shape: Spring Fescue 65, Spring Fescue 83.
In our next post we’ll take a look at the S-shape.
