Last month, New York news site Gothamist released a cool article about the latest use for artificial grass. Usually a concert and event venue, The Rooftop at Pier 17 in NYC had to adapt to a new kind of gathering space. A socially-distant one.

To accommodate guests and provide a fun, safe outdoor space, The Rooftop became The Greens and installed 28 artificial grass mini lawns, each 14’x14′, and four gaming lawns for guests to play bocce ball, corn hole, and giant Jenga.

Maybe we’re being biased, but this is an awesome idea! In a blog post from last month, we discussed using artificial grass for outdoor restaurant seating and gym exercise, but this takes it one step further. A socially-distant hangout space for friends and families to gather seems like it could be the new normal.

For an application like this, we’d recommend an artificial grass that will stay cool, hold up under traffic, and look natural. Grasses like Arizona Platinum, Eco Olive 80 or Vista Natural 80 would be great options.

If this cool idea sparked any projects in your mind, let us know! We love finding new ways to use artificial grass, and we’re happy to help you bring any ideas to life. And don’t forget to check out the original Gothamist article about this cool use of artificial grass!
