Believe it or not, artificial grass can actually improve your life in tangible ways. Beyond the obvious benefits like having a great-looking lawn all year long, a synthetic turf yard can improve your well-being while making the world a better place to live. “Impossible!”, you say. But it’s true! Read on to find out the ways synthetic grass helps you live better, live longer and improve the world.

Live Up to 143 Days Longer

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Americans spend 0.12 hours every day caring for their lawn. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tell us that the average American can expect to live 78.7 years. So that means over an average lifetime 143 days are spent doing yard work. If you have artificial grass that’s more than four months of your life that could be spent doing literally anything else.

Save 9 Billion Gallons of Water

Over on our Facebook page we recently posted a video from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The video shows just part of the extraordinary infrastructure required to move water from its source to your tap. According to the Chicago Tribune, however, the EPA estimates Americans pour 9 billion gallons of water onto their lawns. If everyone had artificial grass, that’d be 13,627 Olympic swimming polls worth of water saved every year.

Prevent Environmental Catastrophe

Mowing the lawn, in addition to costing you four months of life, is also one of the most environmentally unfriendly things we do. According to the EPA blog, “a conventional gas powered lawn mower spews nearly 90 pounds of the greenhouse gas CO2, and over 50 pounds of other pollutants into our air every year.” The agency also says that over 17 million gallons of gas are spilled each year refueling lawn and garden equipment – more than the oil spilled by the Exxon Valdez.

Keep Waterways Blue

According to Scientific American, the CDC estimates that Americans apply 75 million pounds of lawn chemicals each year. A lot of those chemicals end up getting washed into local lakes and streams. This can result in massive algae blooms and widespread die off of native aquatic species. When the algae blooms die, they suck up massive quantities of oxygen from the water, leaving parts of many waterways uninhabitable. Synthetic grass lawns require no chemicals.

Eliminate 83,000 Emergency Room Visits

Somehow, we tend to forget that pushing around a machine with a giant metal blade spinning at terrifying speed a few inches from our toes can be a source of injury. According to USA Today, each year more than 83,000 people wind up in the ER due to injuries sustained from lawn mowers. Of those 83,000, 17,000 of the injured are children under the age of 14. Having an artificial grass lawn means never having to mow again.

There you have it. Sure, our grass may be fake, but the benefits of replacing your grass with synthetic turf are very real.
